In the name of God Amen, the seventeenth day of May 1627; I SARA HENBERY of London, widow, being sick and weak in body nevertheless of good and perfect mind and memory, thanks be therefore given unto Almighty God, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, trusty and assuredly to be saved and to have full and free remission and forgiveness of all my sins in and through the death and passion and merits of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer. My body I commit to the earth to be buried in such place where it shall please God to appoint. And touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me, I give and bequeath the same in manner as follows: ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my daughter ELIZABETH HENBURY forty and five pounds to be paid unto her when she shall accomplish her lawful age of twenty and one years [or] to be married, which of them shall [first] or next happen to be after my decease. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my daughter SARA HENBERY the sum of forty and five pounds to be paid her when she shall accomplish her lawful age of twenty and one years or be married which of them shall first and next happen to be after my decease. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my son STEPHEN HENBERY the sum of forty and five pounds to be paid unto him when he shall accomplish his lawful age of twenty and one years provided always and my mind and will is that if my said daughters Elizabeth and Sara or my said son Stephen or any of them shall decease this mortal life before they or any of them shall come to their or any of their several ages and times of payment of their legacies as aforesaid, that then the survivor or survivors of them shall have the legacy or legacies of him her or them three so dying to come unto and amongst the survivor or survivors of them equally to be divided or wholly to be paid to any of them surviving at the days and times aforesaid. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto JAMES HENBERY my son the sum of twenty pounds to be paid him when he shall be of the age of twenty and one years. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my son WILLIAM HEMBERY the sum of twenty pounds to be paid him at his age of one and twenty years, provided that if either of my said sonsJames or William do depart this mortal life before they or either of them shall come to their age of one and twenty years that then the legacy of such of them so departing this mortal life shall come and be paid unto the survivor of them; and if the said James and William both die before they come to their age of one and twenty years then I give their legacies unto my son Stephen if he be living; if not to my said two daughters to be paid them as aforesaid. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my sons JOHN HENBERY and RICHARD HENBERY the sum of ten pounds apiece to be paid them at their several ages of one and twenty; and that, if either of them die before, the survivor to have his legacy; and if both of them die before they come to their age of one and twenty years then I give their legacies to my son Stephen if he be living, and when he shall be one and twenty years old; but if he die before then I give the legacies of my said sons John and Richard so dying as aforesaid unto my two daughters Elizabeth and Sara equally between them when they or either of them come to their ages of one and twenty years or be married; and further my mind and will is that if my said two daughters and my said son Stephen shall all of them depart this mortal life before they or any of them shall come to their several ages of one and twenty years or marriage as aforesaid, then I will that their several legacies of forty and five pounds by me given unto them shall come and be paid and equally divided to and amongst all the rest of my aforesaid children or the survivor or survivors of them at the days and times of their ages aforesaid. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my servant Ellen Gittens the sum of ten pounds to be paid unto her within two years after my decease. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my loving sister MARREY HOWES, widow, the sum of ten pounds to be paid unto her within two years after my decease . ITEM; I give unto my sister MARGARET COOKE, wife of WILLIAM COOKE the sum of ten pounds to be paid unto her within two years after my decease. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my sister MARIE HOLLAND, wife of ROBERT HOLLAND the sum of ten pounds to be paid unto her within two years after my decease, and my mind and will is that if any of my said three sisters shall depart this mortal life before the time of payment of their legacies that then the legacy or legacies of such or so many of them as shall die before the said time of payment thereof, shall be paid unto the survivor or survivors of them equally amongst them or wholly to one if two of them die at the time before limited. ITEM; I give to the poor of the Parish of Saint Brides in Fleet Street Londno the sum of forty shillings to be bestowed in bread and to be given unto them at the time of my burial. ITEM; my mind and will is that my loving brother STEPHEN LANCASTELL of London, Goldsmith shall have the guardianship of all my said children and the managing of all their portions, legacies, lands, tenements, rents and annuities during their minorities for and towards their finding, education and bringing up, desiring him heartily that as my trust is in him that he will be loving, careful, provident and respectful of them and their estates to the best advantage he may and to be answerable unto them so far forth as law and good conscience shall require, and to see them well educated and brought up in the fear of God; and I do make and ordain the said Stephen Lancastell full and sole executor of this my last will and testament; and I do give him for his pains in the execution of this my will the sum of twenty pounds. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my loving friends Richard Rippington and John Bigg the sum of five pounds apiece, and I do make and appoint them to be overseers of this my will. The residue of all and singular my goods and chattels not before given and bequeathed I will that the same be equally divided to amongst all my children or the survivors of them at their ages and times aforesaid. In witness whereof hereunto, I the said Sara Henbery have set my hand and seal the day and year abovesaid – the mark of Sara Hanbery – sealed and delivered and read and published by the said Sara Henbery as her last will and testament in the presence of us: Gyles Alleyn, Anthony Haberley, Tho.
