In the name of God Amen, the eight and twentieth day of February AD 1667 (1668) and in the twentieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord King Charles the Second of England, I Elizabeth POWNEY of Bray in the County of Berks, widow, being in perfect health and memory (blessed be the God in whom I trust) do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following: First I humbly bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, trusting in the merits and mediation of Christ Jesus of his merciful acceptance, and my body I commit unto the earth to be decently buried in the churchyard of Bray in such manner as my executrix hereafter named shall think fit; and as for the worldly goods wherewith God has blessed me in this life, I dispose of as follows: First I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law William POWNEY the sum of five pounds, ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law Richard POWNEY the sum of five pounds. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Elizabeth BARNARD one chest of linen and other goods with all that is in the said chest now in the dwelling house of Mr Nicholas Costom. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Elizabeth WINDER one trunk of linen, that is to say, one damask table cloth, eighteen diaper napkins, one long damasks towel, one long flaxen table cloth and twenty-four flared napkins, six pairs of flaxen sheets, one double silver salt, one great silver beer bowl being in the same trunk, and also twelve of my best pewter dishes, one pair of great iron andirons now standing in the hall of the house of my son-in-law John WINDER which said trunk and other goods are now standing and being in the said house of my son-in-law John Winder. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my three grandchildren Elizabeth Barnard, Anne BARNARD, and Mary BARNARD the sum of one hundred pounds apiece to be paid unto them at their several ages of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen without any interest for the same, but if any of the said three children shall happen to die before the accomplishment of their said ages of one and twenty years or days of marriage then I bequeath the portion or portions of her or them so dying unto the survivor or survivors, and if they all shall happen to die before their said portions shall become due then I give the said portions unto my daughter Elizabeth WINDER. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my said grandchild Elizabeth Winder one hundred pounds to be paid together with due interest therefore unto the said Elizabeth Winder when she shall attain her age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen. ITEM; I give and bequeath unto Rebecca POWNEY daughter of my son Richard POWNEY ten pounds to be paid unto her at her age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen but my will is that the said ten pounds be paid to John GROVE her father-in-law within six months next after my decease upon condition nevertheless that the said John Grove do give security by bond to pay the same according to my will hereby expressed with interest after the rate of five pounds in the hundred from the time of his receiving the said ten pounds until the time limited for payment thereof. ITEM; I give unto the poor of the parish of Bray five pounds to be disposed of within one month after my decease at the discretion of the churchwardens of the said parish and my executrix and overseers, and lastly I do nominate and appoint my daughter Elizabeth Winder my sole executrix of this my last will and testament to whom I give all the rest of my goods and chattels unbequeathed, and I desire my son in law John Winder and my loving friend Thomas Page to be overseers of this my last will to whom I give twenty shillings apiece for their care.
