In the name of God Amen, I JOHN WINCH of Cotton End in the Parish of Cardington in the County of Bedford, gentleman, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following: Inprimis I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator and Redeemer; and my body to be committed to the earth from whence it was taken at the discretion of my executrix.  ITEM; I give and bequeath to my son JOHN WINCH all my lands, tenements and hereditaments in the Parish of Cardington in the County of Bedford when he shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years excepting my wife’s jointure and that land I bought of my cousin HUMFREY BARNARDISTON which I have already disposed of.  ITEM; my mind and will is that all my personal goods and chattels whatsoever be improved to the best benefit and advantage to raise my younger children’s portions and they to have each of them their equal portions.  ITEM; I give and bequeath to my cousin ONSLOW WINCH ten pounds to be paid within six months after my decease for the benefit of my sister MARY COVENTY.  ITEM; I ordain and appoint ELIZABETH my loving wife executrix of this my last will and testament – John Winch – signed, sealed, published and declared as my last will and testament in the presence of Henry Whitbread, Robert Tilney, William Smithes jnr, Edward Spencer
