September 2nd 1653; In the name of God Amen; I Asaph ATKINSON of Kesshall in the County of Herts, gent, being sick in body but of perfect senses do make this my last will and testament as follows: in primis I bequeath my soul into the hands of my Lord God desiring him to accept of it for Christ Jesus his sake; my body I desire may be decently interred as my executors shall think fit; and for my worldly goods with which God has blessed me I dispose of them as follows: ITEM; I give one messuage with the backside and orchard thereunto belonging as also one close thereunto adjoining with twenty four acres of arable land thereunto belonging and three cottages or tenements with the closes yards and orchards thereunto belonging lying and being situated in the town of Lidlington in the County of Cambridge one of them being now in the occupation of Thomas Parker of the same town another late in the tenure of John Fabian and the other in the tenure of William Ivory or his assigns, and forty acres of arable land more or less late in the tenure of Edmond Stowe or his assigns lying in the fields of Lidlington and Steeple Morden in the said County of Cambridge and all other my lands unto my mother Margaret ATKINSON of Glentworth in the County of (Lincoln) widow and after her decease to my brother Robert ATKINSON of Glentworth aforesaid and to his heirs forever.  ITEM; it is my will that all the aforementioned houses and lands shall be sold for the payment of my debts and legacies.  ITEM; I give to Mrs Phellip Curtis widow ten pounds and to Mr William Curtis other ten pounds provided that they shall be ready to sign and seal such writing for the confirmation of the aforementioned effect as my executors shall think fit otherwise my legacies to them to be void.  ITEM; I give to every one of my brother ASHBURNE’s four children five pounds apiece.  ITEM; I give to my cousin Elizabeth BROWNE five pounds.  ITEM; I give to my uncle THORNHILL’s five other children forty shillings apiece.  ITEM; I give to my sister Albrina (WELBY) five pounds.  ITEM; I give to my uncle Mr Robert THORNHILL five pounds.  ITEM; I give to my brother Welby five pounds.  ITEM; I give to my brother ASHBURNE five pounds.  ITEM; I do make and appoint the aforesaid Mr Thornhill, Mr Welby and Mr Ashburne sole executors of this my last will and testament desiring them to pay all just debts of which they have a note remaining in their hands.  In witness of this my last will and testament I have set my hand and seal the day and year above written – Asaph Atkinson – in the presence of William Curtis, Thomas Browne
