In the name of God Amen; the one and twentieth day of April one thousand six hundred and thirty one in the seventh year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith etc.  I CHRISTIAN BROOKE of the Parish of St Clement Danes without Temple Bar in the County of Middlesex widow being sick in body but of good sound and perfect mind and remembrance (praised be God) do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say):   FIRST and principally I give and commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator and to Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer by the merits of whose most precious blood-shedding death and passion I do hope and most steadfastly believe to be saved and by no other means; and I commit my body to the earth to be buried in decent sort according to the good direction of my executor hereunder named.  And as for disposing of my worldly goods and temporal estate I do dispose of them as follows:  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my son RICHARD BROOKE the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of England and also twenty pounds a year of like money out of the rent of my house in Milford Lane in the Parish of St Clement Danes during the term of my lease in the same.  ITEM; I give and bequeath to my daughter ELIZABETH BROOKE the sum of one hundred pounds of lawful money of England which I will shall be presently put out for her best profit and advantage until the day of her marriage or age of twenty years either of which shall first come or happen to be and then to be paid unto her and also six pounds a year more of like money of my rent of my house in Milford Lane for her maintenance and the yearly interest of her said hundred pounds.  ITEM; I give and bequeath more to my said daughter Elizabeth all my linen whatsoever and all my apparel and my little annealed ring of gold.  ITEM; I give and bequeath to my kinswoman MARGARET STEELE ten pounds of like money to be paid unto her within three months next after my decease.  ITEM; I give and bequeath to George Hathaway five pounds of like money to be paid within three months next after my decease.  ITEM: I give and bequeath to my kinsman NICHOLAS [PISTER] five pounds of like money to be paid as aforesaid.  ITEM; I give and bequeath more to my said daughter Elizabeth Brooke my silver beer bowl and one silver and gilt spoon.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto Mr Henry Davies preacher the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of England and my hoop ring of gold.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Symmes twenty shillings the rest and residue of all and singular my goods and chattels unbequeathed my debts first paid and funeral expenses discharged I give and bequeath unto my loving friend Mr Henry Davies preacher of the word of God whom of this my present last will and testament I do make my full and sole executor desiring him to have a special care for the good education and keeping of my said daughter Elizabeth Brooke and to perform this my present last will and testament.  In witness whereof I the said Christian Brooke have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written – the mark of Christian Brooke – Sealed subscribed and delivered by me the said Christian Brooke as my last will and testament in the presence of Thomas [Burtole], Sir John Dashett, Randall Baston
