In the name of God, Amen, I Elizabeth IRETON, wife of John IRETON Esq, being in health and of perfect memory, praised be Almighty God, do (by virtue of the power and authority to me given by my said husband, John Ireton, in and by one indenture dated the twenty-fourth of August 1658, made or mentioned to be made between the said John Ireton by the name of Sir John Ireton of the City of London, Knight and one of the Aldermen of the said City, Stephen Thornley, Citizen and Goldsmith of London, and John Hanson of London, Gent., of the one part, and me, the said Elizabeth, by the name of Elizabeth SLEIGH of London, widow, Francis Dashwood of London, Alderman, Colonel Matthew Sheppard, Citizen and Grocer of London, and William Goddard, Citizen also and Grocer of London, parties entrusted by and for me the said Elizabeth of the other part, sealed and executed before my marriage with the said John Ireton) make and declare this my last will.  FIRST and principally, I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Jesus Christ my alone Saviour who I trust of his free grace and mercy will receive it when it departs from this my frail body; and my desire is that my body may be buried in Mercers Chapel London under the stone where the body of my late husband Alderman SLEIGH lies or as near the same as conveniently may be; and, as touching the disposition of such temporal estate as it has pleased God to bestow upon me, I give and dispose thereof as follows.  INPRIMIS; whereas my son-in-law James HOST Esq has (according to my computation) received with my daughter Elizabeth in marriage and otherwise the half part of my late husband’s estate which he left at the time of his death, I give to the said James Host and Elizabeth his wife only fifty pounds to buy mourning for themselves and family.  ITEM; I give to his daughter Elizabeth TRYON one hundred pounds if she shall be living twelve months after my decease to buy her a necklace.  ITEM; I give the said Elizabeth Tryon twenty pounds for mourning for herself and her husband.  ITEM; I give to my Granddaughter Jane HOST one hundred pounds to buy her a necklace.  ITEM; I give to my daughter Mary NELTHORP, widow, fifty pounds to buy mourning for herself and children.  ITEM; if my said husband John Ireton shall be living twelve months after my decease and do before the end of three months next after my death give and execute unto my Executrix Mary Nelthorp, widow, a good and sufficient release and discharge under the hand and seal of claims and demands whatsoever in and to my estate and every part thereof with a covenant and promise not to interrupt the execution of this my will, and if he the said James Ireton do not obstruct the proving of this my will, then in such case and not otherwise, I give unto my said husband that part of the debt of five hundred pounds now owing from Sir Anthony, a Sir William and Sir Thomas Bateman to Sibill Goddard and Francis Dashwood or one of them in trust for me, and the debt of three hundred pounds owing from James Wainwright to the said Sibill Goddard or Francis Dashwood or one of them in trust for me, and the debt of three hundred pounds owing from my said husband and his son Jermaine IRETON Esq to the said Sibill Goddard in trust for me; but if my said husband shall neglect, refuse or omit to give and execute such release and discharge with a covenant as aforesaid before the expiration of three months after my decease or if he do or shall obstruct the proving of this will then and in such case I give my said husband ten pounds only and no more to be paid six months after my decease and ten pounds for mourning, and do revoke all former devises for his benefit.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Nelthorp two thousand pounds of lawful money of England and my great jewel with a drop at it, my necklace of pearl of three rows with a locket, and all my goods, jewels, chattels, plate, household stuff and wearing clothes whatsoever, and my will and meaning is that the said two thousand pounds, jewel, necklace and other things before bequeathed to my said daughter Mary before any legacy mentioned in this my will shall be paid, and it is my express will and meaning that no person whatsoever shall receive any benefit by this my will until the said two thousand pounds and other things before given to my said daughter Mary and the said five hundred pounds hereafter given to my Grandson James NELTHORP shall be actually received by my said daughter Mary Nelthorp out of my estate.  ITEM; I give to my Granddaughter Mary NELTHORP my farm at Kilgore in the County of Middlesex late in the occupation of William Crows to hold the same in such manner as I have by deed settled the same.  ITEM; I give to my said Grandson James Nelthorp five hundred pounds when he shall attain the age of one and twenty years.  ITEM; I give to Mr George Griffith one hundred pounds to be paid within twelve months after my decease in trust to be by him paid and distributed as follows: that is to say ten pounds part thereof to my cousin Mr Gilson and the residue thereof to be distributed amongst eighteen poor protestant nonconformist ministers to be named by my husband, the said Mr Griffith, Mr Ellis Crisp and Mr Thomas Brooks by five pounds apiece.  ITEM; I give the sum of fifty pounds to be a stock for the poor of the church or sorrety whereof I am a member to be paid to Mr Brooks, Deacon, or his successors within twelve months after my decease.  ITEM; I give the said George Griffith fifty pounds if he shall be living twelve months after my decease. ITEM; I give the said George Griffith and his wife twenty pounds to buy them mourning.  ITEM; I give to my nephew Matthew SHEPPARD five hundred pounds to be paid twelve months after my decease.  ITEM; I give the said Matthew Sheppard and his wife twenty pounds for mourning.  ITEM; whereas my late cousin William Goddard deceased has received much trouble upon my account as my trustee, I give to the said Sibill Goddard, his relict, one hundred pounds if she shall be living twelve months after my decease.  ITEM; I give to the said Sibill ten pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give her son-in-law (blank) Hardett and Jane his wife twenty pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give to my husband’s said son Jermaine Ireton ten pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give to his son Henry ten pounds for mourning if he shall live with me at the time of my death.  ITEM; I give Mrs Kent twenty pounds if she shall be living three months after my decease.  ITEM; I give to John Greene of London, Gent., and to Katherine his wife, fifty pounds and twenty pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give Mrs Williams ten pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give to Mr Slater ten pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give my cousin Bly ten pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give my cousin Palmer ten pounds for mourning;  ITEM; I give to Mrs Wood five pounds for mourning.  ITEM; I give to Mrs Basse ten pounds if she shall be living twelve months after my decease.  MY  funeral expenses being discharged, for which I appoint two hundred pounds, I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my estate wheresoever and whatsoever not hereby disposed of and all such legacies as shall become void by the death of my legatees or otherwise to my said daughter and executrix Mary Nelthorp, widow, and I do hereby make appoint and ordain my said daughter Mary Nelthorp sole executrix of this my will.  In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this thirtieth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred eighty and two and in the four and thirtieth year of his Majesty’s reign over England etc – Eliza.
