In the name of God Amen; I THOMAS CROUCH of Heathfield in the County of Sussex, Yeoman, being sick in body but thanks be to God of good and perfect memory do make this my last will and testament this three and twentieth day of August 1650 in manner and form as follows:  Imprimis I will and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Heathfield.  ITEM; I give unto my daughter JANE CROUCHE three hundred pounds to be paid her at the age of one and twenty years by my executor.  ITEM; I give unto my son WILLIAM CROUCHE all those my lands called Milkhurst lying in Heathfield at the age of one and twenty years and one hundred and fifty pounds to be paid out of my stock at the age of one and twenty years; and will and meaning is that if my son William should happen to die without heirs that all those my lands shall come unto my daughter Jane Crouch and her heirs forever after the age of one and twenty years and my will and meaning is that if those my two children shall happen to depart this life before they accomplish the age of one and twenty years that my wife shall enjoy all those my lands called Milkhurst during her natural life; and my will and meaning is that my wife shall have the education and bringing up of my children  and to receive the profit of my lands and moneys for and towards the bringing of them up.  ITEM; more I do give unto my daughter Jane the worth of ten pounds in household stuff to be paid her by my executors.  ITEM; I give unto my son William all the rest of my goods unbequeathed whom I make my whole executor to this my last will and testament with the help of my three brothers JOHN ATKIN, THOMAS ATKYN and MATHEW ATKYN which I make my friends in trust for my son whereunto I have set my hand and seal the day and year first above written – Thomas Crouch – sealed and delivered in the presence of John Atkin, (the mark of) Mary Smith, John Cowly (his mark), (the mark of) Mary Medhurst

 

Proved 7th February 1654/5 – Administration granted to Jane Crouch, natural and lawful daughter of Thomas Crouch late of Heathfield in the County of Sussex, yeoman, deceased…during the minority of William Crouche the son and sole executor
