In the name of God Amen. I ANNE LANGCASTELL of London, widow, late the wife of RICHARD LANCASTELL, late Citizen and Goldsmith of London deceased, and sometimes the wife of JOHN CORNEWALL, late Citizen also and Goldsmith of London deceased, and before that the wife of JOHN WADDUPP whilst he lived, Citizen and Iremonger of London also deceased being at this present time in reasonable health of body and of good and sound mind and memory (thanks be therefore given to Almighty God) and considering with myself the uncertainty of this transitory life and of the hour of death, and being willing to settle and limit a certain course for the disposing of such worldly goods, lands, substance and temporal blessings as it has pleased God to bestow upon me do therefore this present twelfth day of February in the year of our Lord God (according to the computation of the Church of England) one thousand six hundred twenty and five and in the second year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles grace God King of England Scotland France and Ireland, defender of the faith et cetera make ordain publish and declare this my present Testament containing therein my last will in manner and form following: that is to say, first and principally I commend my soul and spirit into the hands of Almighty God my heavenly Father in a constant faith and belief and full assurance of the free and absolute remission pardon and forgiveness of all my sins only in by and through the most precious death and passion and righteousness and merits of Jesus Christ his only son my alone saviour and Redeemer in his precious blood shedding I put the only hope of my salvation, and that thereby through the merits of Almighty God after this life ended I shall inherit and enjoy eternal life and bliss in the glorious kingdom of heaven with all the elect children of God; my mortal body I remits to the Earth in hope of a joyful resurrection to be buried in decent comely and Christian manner in the parish church of St Peter in Westcheap als. Cheapside in London (where I have a long dwelled) at and by the good discretion of my executor hereinafter named. Item; my will and mind is and I do hereby ordain and appoint that all such debts and sums of money as I shall truly owe to any person or persons at the time of my decease shall be truly paid so soon after my decease as conveniently may be; and as concerning the disposing of all such goods, chattels and substance which it has pleased God to bestow upon me I do give devise will and bequeath the same in manner and form following that is to say: first I give and bequeath unto my grandchild JOHN WADDUPP the eldest son of my late son JOHN WADDUPP deceased the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England and my gold ring with his name thereon being sometimes his father’s ring and also my own wedding ring, my best diaper tablecloth, a dozen of my best diaper napkins a long Holland’s table cloth, a dozen laid-work napkins and a towel of the same work, my lesser pair of brass andirons, a warming pan, my best fire shovel and tongs, my best coverlet, my best childbed sheet wrought with laid work and two pillow bears of the same, and I do hereby will and appoint and require him that he do lend unto and permit and suffer his sister ANNE and his cousin ANNE WADDUPP daughter of my son SYMON WADDUPP at any time to have and use the said couple let childbed sheet and pillow bears when in childbed they or either of them shall have occasion to use them; also I do give and bequeath unto my said grandchild John Waddupp my best great basin and ewer, a pottle flagon pot, two less flagon pots, my two [fuit Orenses], my great cattle, a pan, two green taffeta cushions, my trunk, one standing bedstead, a trundle bed, a table board, a form, a green rug, two blankets, my best featherbed, two bolsters, two pillows and the balance and curtains thereunto belonging, which standing bed and other the goods and premises following are now remaining at within and about my farmhouse at the Glemsford in the County of Suffolk called Burford’s or Waddupps Farm; all which money and goods I will and appoint shall be paid and delivered unto him at his full age of one and twenty years (if he so long live) and the said goods in the meantime to be safely preserved and kept from hurt, spoil or impairment of the same or any of them in any wise. Item; I give and bequeath to my grandchild WILLIAM WADDUPP second son of my said son John Waddupp deceased the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England, and all my goods or household stuff not before given remaining and being at within and about my said farmhouse in Glemsford aforesaid and one Holland’s table board, one pair of flaxen sheets, a dozen of flaxen napkins, by six silver spoons, my great brass pot, a kettle, a pan and two needlework cushions, all which money and goods I hereby will and appoint shall be paid and delivered unto him at his full age of one and twenty years (if he so long live) and the said goods in the meantime to be safely preserved and kept from hurt, spoil or impairment of the same or any of them in the meantime. Item; I give and bequeath unto my grandchild and goddaughter ANNE WADDUPP daughter of my said son John Waddupp deceased the sum of twenty pounds of lawful money of England, my seventeen Pearl and gold buttons, a court cupboard cloth a veil, a fine smock and two needlework cushions, all which money and goods I hereby will and appoint shall be paid and delivered unto her at her full age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen (if she so long live) and the said goods in the meantime to be safely preserved and kept from hurt, spoil or impairment of the same or any of them in any wise, and give it shall happen any of my said grandchildren John Waddupp, William Waddupp or Anne Waddupp to depart this mortal life before such time as their said several legacies shall be due and payable unto them by force of this my last will and Testament then my will and meaning is and I do hereby will ordain and appoint that his her or their parts and legacies so deceasing as well of money as of goods shall remain come and go and be paid and delivered and enjoyed to and by the survivors or survivor of them at such time as he is her or their own legacies shall be due and payable according to this my last will and Testament, and give all of them shall decease before such time as their said several legacies shall be due and payable unto them by force of and according to this my last will and Testament that then all the said legacies to them and every of them before given and bequeathed as aforesaid shall remain come and go and be paid and delivered to and amongst the children of my son Symon Waddupp hereinafter named part and part like. Item; I give and bequeath unto my grandchild and godson JOHN WADDUPP eldest son of my said son Symon Waddupp, Citizen and Iremonger of London the sum of twenty pounds of lawful money of England and my best pair of brass andirons a wool bed, a featherbed, a bolster, two pillows, a rug green, three blankets, a pair of curtains and valance of yellow and blue say, a deep basin a charger, a pasty plate a square voyder to be paid and delivered unto him at his full age of one and twenty years (if he so long live). Item; I give and bequeath unto my grandchild SYMON WADDOPPE second son of my said son Symon Waddupp the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him at his full age of one and twenty years (if he so long live). Item; I give and bequeath to my grandchild and goddaughter ANNE WADDUPP daughter of my said son Symon Waddupp the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England and my two gold bracelets a Holland table cloth a towel a dozen of napkins wrought with a gillow flower in laid work, a pair of valance and curtains of green say which her mother now has in keeping, a carpet of green broad cloth, a window cloth, two door cloths, a press cloth of kersey a long pillow of taffeta and for cushions, my riding hood, cloak and saveguard, all which money and goods I will shall be paid and delivered unto her at her full age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen (if she so long live). Item I give and bequeath unto my grandchild DOROTHY WADDUPP another daughter of my said son Symon Waddupp the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England a silver beaker and my jewel of the fashion of a hart set with diamonds and enbyes, which money beaker and jewel I will shall be paid and delivered to her at her full age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen (if she so long live) and if it shall happen any of my said grandchildren last before named children of my said son Symon Waddupp to depart this mortal life before such time as their said several legacies shall be due and payable unto them by force of this my last will and Testament then my will and meaning is and I do hereby will ordain and appoint that his her all their parts or legacies so deceasing as well of money as goods shall remain come and go and be paid delivered and enjoyed to and by the survivors or survivor of them at such times as his her or their own legacies shall be due and payable according to this my last will and Testament and if all of them shall decease before such time as they shall receive their said legacies by force of this my last will and Testament that then all the said legacies to them and every of them before given and bequeathed as aforesaid shall remain come and go and be paid and delivered to and amongst such other child and children as it shall please God to send my said son Symon Waddupp at their several ages or days of marriage respectively of the same child or children which shall first happen and not before. Item; I give and bequeath unto my daughter in law DOROTHY WADDUPP wife of my said son Symon my ruby ring and my chain of gold.  ITEM; I give grant bequeath and devise unto my brother and sister EDMOND DOWNES and MARGERY his wife and to the longest liver of them two one annuity or yearly sum of forty shillings of lawful money of England, the same to be paid to them and the survivors of them at the feast days of St Michael the Archangel and the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary or within ten days next after either of the same feast days by even and equal portions by such person and persons as from time to time by force of this my last will and Testament shall have hold receive and take the rents issues and profits and revenues of my farm called Burfords alias Waddupps Farm and the lands tenements and hereditaments thereunto belonging situate within the Manor or parish of Glemsford in the County of Suffolk. Item; I do give and bequeath to my cousin ELNOR daughter of my said sister Margery Downes the sum of twenty shillings to be paid unto her within six months next after my decease and to her three children the sum of ten shillings apiece of like money to be paid and delivered to their father and mother or the survivor of them for their use within six months after my decease. Item; I give and bequeath to my kinswoman JANE DOWNES the sum of forty shillings to be paid unto her within six months after my decease. Item; I give and bequeath unto SYMON WADDUPP and EDWARD WADDUPP sons of WILLIAM WADDUPP my late brother in law deceased the sum of ten shillings apiece. Item; I give and bequeath unto my cousin Mrs HALL widow my best diamond ring to give it at her death to her daughter ANNE HALL. Item I give and bequeath to the said Anne Hall being my goddaughter a silver cup of fifty shillings price and to her brother John Hall my godson a silver cup of thirty shillings price and to every of the other children of my said cousin Mrs Hall a silver cup of twenty shillings price apiece to be given and delivered unto them severally within one year after my decease (if they be then of the age of twenty and one years or married or else to them mother for their use). Item; I give and bequeath to my cousin HUMFREY CLERKE and to his wife and two daughters four pounds of lawful money of England equally between them videst. to every of them twenty shillings apiece to be paid unto them severally or to my said cousin Humfrey Clerke wholly to their use within one year after my decease. Item; I give and bequeath to Mrs Johnson of Glemsford and to Mrs Brookebancke to each of them a ring with a death’s head of ten shillings price apiece. Item; I give and bequeath unto my kinsman THOMAS MACHAM a ring with a death’s head of ten shillings price. Item; I give and bequeath to my tenant William Ashley of Glemsford and his wife to either of them a ring with a death’s head of ten shillings price apiece and to their two daughters Mary and Margaret two silver and gilt spoons of an ounce weight apiece to be delivered to them or to their father or mother for their use within one year next after my decease. Item; I give and bequeath to for sincere preachers as be in want ten shillings apiece, and to eight poor scholars that study divinity five shillings apiece whereof four to be of Cambridge and four of Oxford, and to be chosen by my executor and overseers for the more part of them. Item; I give and bequeath to every of the prisons of the White Lion, Marshalsea, the King’s Bench, the Fleet, Ludgate and Newgate five shillings apiece to be distributed amongst the poor prisoners in the sight of my executor and overseers or so many of them as pleased to go the other to see it done. Item; I give to every of the hospital’s of Knightsbridge, Newington, my will and and Kent Street two shillings six pence apiece to be distributed amongst the poor sick and lame people there. Item; I do will and desire and appoint it two Goldsmiths and two Ironmongers shall carry my body to be buried and I do give to every of them five shillings apiece for their pains. Item I do give and bequeath unto the churchwardens of the parish of St Peter in Westcheap in London the sum of three pounds of lawful money of England to be by them and their successors for ever employed and set forth at by and with the good discretion and consent of the Parson and most substantial parishioners there for the time being or the more part of them to and for the use of the poor of the said parish and the increase thereof to be bestowed yearly for ever upon the poor of the said parish in bread in and upon mid-Lent Sunday yearly for ever. Item; I give and bequeath unto the churchwardens of the parish of Glemsford in the County of Suffolk the sum of three pounds of lawful money of England to be by them and their successors for ever employed and set forth at by and with the good discretions and consent of the Parson and most substantial of the parishioners there for the time being or the more part of them to and for the use of the poor of the said parish and the increase thereof to be bestowed upon the poor of the said parish in money in and upon mid-Lent Sunday yearly for ever, and my will and mind is that all such legacies and sums of money as are by me here in bequeathed for payment and delivery whereof I have not limited and set down any certain time shall be truly paid and delivered by my executor hereinafter named within two years after my decease. The rest residue and all the whole remainder of all and singular my goods chattels household stuff plate money and debts and things whatsoever in or by this my last will and Testament unbequeathed I do fully and wholly give and bequeath will and devise the same unto my said son Symon Wadduppe and for the due execution and performance of this my last will and Testament I do make ordain nominate and appoint my said son Symon Wadduppe my full and sole executor of this my last will and Testament willing and requiring and charging him truly to execute and performed the same in all things according to my true intent and meaning hearing declared and I do nominate make require and entreat my loving friends Mr James Halfhead Mr John Turvey Mr George Crispe of Glemsford and Mr John Bigges of Glemsford to be overseers of this my last will and Testament desiring them and every of them to be aiding and assistant to my executor with their best advice counsel and furtherance in the due execution of this my last will and Testament and I do give and bequeath to every one of them for his love and pains therein to be taken twenty shillings apiece to make them rings with a death’s head. And as concerning the disposing of all and singular my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever situate lying and being within the manner and parish of Glemsford or either of them in the County of Suffolk being customary lands and tenements and holden of the said manner of Glemsford by copy of Court Roll whereof I have made a surrender to the use of my last will and Testament I do hereby will ordain limit and appoint that my said son Symon Waddupp before named executor of this my last will and Testament and his executors and administrators (if he the said Symon shall prove this my last will and Testament and take upon him the execution and performance thereof) or otherwise that such person or persons to whom the administration of my goods and chattels and the execution or performance of this my last will and Testament shall be committed shall have hold receive perceive levy take and enjoy all the rents issues and profits and revenues whatsoever of all and singular my said messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever within the said manner or parish of Glemsford or elsewhere in the said County of Suffolk for and during the term of seven years to commence and begin immediately from and after my decease and from thence next following fully to be complete and ended for and towards and therewith to satisfy paid and discharged as well all the debts which I shall owe at the time of my decease as also all the sums of money and legacies before by me given and bequeathed in and by this my last will and Testament as aforesaid according to my true meaning hereinbefore expressed. Item; I do hereby give will disposed devise and bequeath the same lands and premises and every of them after the end of the said seven years as follows that is to say I do give will devise and bequeath unto my said grandchild John Waddupp eldest son of my said son John Waddupp deceased and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten all that my messuage or tenement called the Rombes situate lying and being within the Manor or parish of Glemsford aforesaid in the County of Suffolk and all my standards and goods in the said house called Rombes together with the three roodes, the barn and other buildings and Weston Mill Meadow lying in or near two Egremont Street with all and singular their appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and for want of such his heirs males the said messuage land and premises to remain and come to his said brother William Wadduppe and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to my son Symon Wadduppe for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease the same to remain and come to his son John Wadduppe and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to Symon Waddupp his brother and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to the heirs males of the said Symon Waddupp my son hereafter lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue to the said Symon my son the same to remain and come to the right heirs of my said deceased son John Waddupp and of my said son Symon Waddupp for ever. Item; I give will devise and bequeath unto my grandchild William Waddupp second son of my said deceased son John Wadduppe and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten all that my cottage or small tenement now or late in the tenure or occupation of the good wife Mower and all my standards whatsoever which are fixed or fastened unto the same together with all that piece or parcel of ground whereof it stands unto the fence or partition that does separate or divided from the upper blackland field and also all that piece or parcel of ground called Coleman’s wall the which I did purchase of Mr Hickes with all their and every of their appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and for want of such his heirs males the said cottage lands and premises to remain and come to his said brother John Waddupp and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to my said son Symon Waddupp for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease the same to remain and come to his son John Waddupp and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to Symon Waddupp his brother and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain come to the heirs males of the said Symon Waddupp my son hereafter lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue of the said Symon my son the same to remain and come to the right heirs of my said deceased son John Waddupp and of my said son Symon Waddupp for ever. Item; I give will devise and bequeath all that my said farm called Burfords Farm and by some Waddupps Farm situate lying and being in the Manor or parish of Glemsford aforesaid in the said County of Suffolk and all the houses lands tenements and hereditaments thereunto properly belonging or appertaining being any part and parcel thereof and all and every other my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever within the said manner or parish of Glemsford or elsewhere in the said County of Suffolk and not before given or demised in or by this my last will and Testament together with all my standards therein as wainscot glass shelves and such other things whatsoever as are fixed or fastened to the said farmhouse or any part thereof unto my said son Symon Waddupp for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease the same to remain and come to Symon Waddupp his son and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to his brother John Waddupp and to the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to the heirs males of the said Symon Wadduppe my son hereafter lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to John Waddupp eldest son of my said deceased son John Waddupp and the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to his brother William Waddupp and the heirs males of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue the same to remain and come to the right heirs of my said deceased son John Waddupp and of my said son Symon Waddupp for ever. And I do hereby revoke repeal disannul and utterly make void all former Wills Testament’s codicils legacies bequests and executors whatsoever by me at any time heretofore made named willed given demised or appointed and my will and mind is and I do hereby pronounce publish and declare and acknowledge that these presents only shall stand and be taken for my last will and Testament and my will and mind and meaning is and I do hereby ordain and appoint that this my present last will and Testament as touching and concerning my said lands messuages tenements and hereditaments and the gifts demise is bequests entails and estates thereof or of any part thereof hereinbefore by me made given demised bequeathed and [  ] aforesaid shall not be revoked repealed disannulled avoided weakened impeached altered or controlled or taken judged deemed or construed to be revoked repealed disannulled avoided weakened impeached altered or controlled by any other will or Testament or codicil hereafter by me to be made or declared or by reason of any general words sentence or change of revocation therein to be contained or expressed unless that in the same will and Testament or codicil there shall be set down and contained at large the full whole and expressed give devise and bequest entail and estate thereof so to be thereby revoked repealed disannulled avoided weakened impeached altered or controlled verbatim as it is here set down and written and with express words of flat and plain revocation thereof.
