The third of July one thousand six hundred twenty five. In the name of God Amen, I MATHEW SHEPPARD of London Grocer the elder of the Parish of Christ church in the Ward of Farriyton [Farringdon]within being in perfect mind and memory and not sick in body thanks be to God therefore do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first I commend my soul to Almighty God and my body to be buried in Christ Church at the discretion of my executrix and touching my worldly goods wherewith God hath endowed me in this life I bequeath thereof as followeth: First I bequeath unto my brother JOHN SHEPPARD and his wife forty shillings apiece. ITEM; I give unto RICHARD SHEPPARD my brother RICHARD’s son deceased five pounds. ITEM; I give unto JOHN SHEPPARD my brother five pounds. ITEM; I give unto ANNYS SHEPPARD at the day of her marriage five pounds. ITEM; I give unto ROSSE SHEPPARD at the day of her marriage five pounds; all the four legacies I desire to be paid if not married then at three months and three days after my decease. ITEM; I do give unto Thomas Boothe all that debt which he oweth unto me. ITEM; I give unto William Boothe all that debt he oweth me. I give unto William Boothe’s wife twenty shillings and to her daughter twenty shillings. ITEM; I give unto Henry Sheppard’s children especially to MATHEW SHEPPARD my Godchild forty shillings and to the rest of his brothers and sisters ten shillings apiece. ITEM; I give unto John Juxon the Elder twenty shillings and his wife twenty shillings and John Juxon’s children ten shillings apiece. ITEM; I give unto Richard Bygges twenty shillings and to his wife twenty shillings and to her children ten shillings apiece. ITEM; I give unto Mathew Whithed twenty shillings and to his good wife Mary forty shillings. ITEM; I bequeath unto Rowland Juxon all that debt which he doth owe unto me at my death and to his children ten shillings apiece. ITEM; I give to Ralph Juxon all that debt which he oweth unto me and to his wife ten shillings and to his children ten shillings apiece. ITEM; I give unto Arthur Juxon twenty shillings and to his wife twenty shillings. ITEM; I give unto my sister SMALLWOOD all that she doth owe unto me and to her children ten shillings apiece. ITEM; I give unto the parish of Wylsdon [Willesden] where I was born to twenty of the poorest there dwelling at the discretion of the parson and churchwardens twelve pence apiece to be paid at or on the Sunday after St Mathew’s day being the one and twentieth of September which twentie shillings is to go out of the rent of the Fox which I have set over unto my son MATHEW SHEPPARD for his wife’s jointure. ITEM; I give unto my son Mathew Sheppard forty shillings and to his wife twenty shillings. If any of those legatees die my will is that my executrix shall enjoy that legacy. The rest and residue of all my goods and chattels unbequeathed my debts being paid and funeral discharged I wholly make and bequeath unto SARA my kind and loving wife whom I make and ordain my sole executrix of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the third day of July one thousand six hundred twenty five. Per me Mathew Sheppard. Overseers to this my will I do intreat to be Richard Bigges and John Juxon and Arthur Juxon if need require.
