I JOHN WINCH of Kensworth in the County of Hertford, gentleman, being in good health and of sound and disposing mind and memory (praised be Almighty God for the same) yet calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs do therefore proceed to make my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say): Imprimis I order and direct that my body be buried in Kensworth Churchyard without any great pomp as near to my late dear and loving wife as conveniently may be at the expense of my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto my sister SUSANNAH DELL wife of RICHARD DELL all that my messuage or tenement situate standing and being on Kensworth Common in the said parish of Kensworth wherein I now live and also all the lands hereditaments and premises thereunto belonging and purchased therewith with the appurtenances to the said messuage or tenement lands hereditaments and premises or to any part of parcel of them belonging; and also all those my six acres of land by estimation (be the same more or less) lying in Bovindon Field in the parish of Taternhoe in the County of Bedford part of which said hereditaments and premises are freehold and other part thereof are copyhold which and such part thereof as are copyhold I have surrendered to the use of my will to hold to her the said Susannah Dell and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life she or they keeping the said messuage or tenement in good tenantable repair and committing no wate thereon or on other of the lands and premises and my will further is that my said sister Susannah Dell shall (notwithstanding her present coverture or any future coverture) from time to time in her own name abstracted from the name of her present or any future husband or husbands and at all times hereafter during her natural life have liberty and power to set set and demise the said messuage or tenement lands hereditaments and premises or any part or parcel thereof to any tenant or tenants and in her own name to receive and take the rents issues and profits thereof and dispose of the same to and for her own use and disposal without the consent of her present or any future husband or husbands and I do hereby declare that her receipt or receipts to such tenant or tenants shall be good and binding and as effectual in law as if her present or any other husband or husbands had give the same or joined therein and from and after the decease of my said sister Susannah Dell then I give devise and bequeath my said messuage or tenement lands hereditaments and premises with their appurtenances so devised to my said sister as aforesaid unto my cousin RICHARD WESTBROOKE son of JOHN WESTBROOKE of Shattersbrook in the county of Berks, yeoman his heirs and assigns to hold to him the said Richard Westbrooke his heirs and assigns to the use of him the said Richard Westbrooke his heirs and assigns forever.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto JAMES WINCH of King Street in the City of London Ironmonger all that my acre of land by estimation (be the same more or less) lying and being in the parish of Bray in the county of Berks in a moor or meadow there called Shafer Moor or Meadow [Shorfere?] or by what other name or names the same is or may be called by known or described to hold to him the said James Winch his heirs and assigns to the use of him the said James Winch his heirs and assigns forever he paying thereout unto my cousin BASSET LEE the sum of five pounds of lawful money of Great Britain within one month next after my decease.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto my said sister Susannah Dell the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto her in her own hands (whose receipt shall abstracted from her said husband be a good discharge) within three weeks next after my decease out of my personal estate by my executoir hereinafter named.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto ELIZABETH WISE and FRANCES WISE the two daughters of my cousin JOHN WISE late of the City of Oxford deceased the sum of four hundred pounds apiece of like lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto them respectively within one year next after my decease out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto Mrs Amy Gregge of Hammersmith in the County of Middlesex and unto Mrs Letitia Cock daughter to the late Lord Trevor forty shillings apiece of like lawful money to be paid unto them respectively within six months next after my decease out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath Sir Edward Turner of Oxfordshire whose father when alive lived in Mark Lane London and to whom I was formerly coachman the sum of fifty pounds of like lawful money to be paid unto him within six months next after my decease out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM;  I give devise and bequeath unto John Bricksey of Wareham in the County of Dorset hosier fifty pounds of like lawful money to be paid unto him within eighteen months next after my decease out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto the said James Winch the sum of fifty pounds of like lawful money to be paid unto him within twelve months next after my decease by my executor hereinafter named out of my personal estate.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto the Master or Mistresses of each of the seven poor houses on Cox Green in the said Parish of Bray in the said County of Berks the sum of twenty shillings apiece of like lawful money to be paid unto them respectively immediately after my decease out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath towards the maintaining of the Blue Coat Boys in Christ’s Hospital London the sum of twenty one pounds of like lawful money to be paid into the hands of the Receiver Steward or Cashier of the said Hospital for such use immediately after my decease out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto Humphry Breayley son of Humphry Breayley deceased who in his lifetime kept the Crown and Cushion Tavern in St Mildred’s Bread Street the sum of eight pounds of like lawful money of great Britain to be paid unto him within twelve months next after my decease out of my personal estate by my executor hereinafter named.  ITEM; Whereas Mr Thomas Dale of Gerrards Hall Inn in Basing Lane in the Parish of Saint Mildred Bread Street now pays and is to pay unto me for and during the term of my natural life the sum of ten pounds a year in consideration whereof I sometime ago became bound unto him in and by one bond or obligation to leave or cause to be paid unto him after my decease the sum of two hundred pounds, now I do hereby give and bequeath and direct my executor hereinafter named to pay unto the said Thomas Dale the said sum of two hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain within three months next after my decease or within such other time as is limited in my said bond out of my personal estate and take up the said bond and cancel the same or so otherwise dispose of or assign the same as it may in no wise affect my real estates.  ITEM; I give devise and bequeath unto Frances the wife of Mr Brandreth of Dunstable my largest white enamelled ring to be delivered to her by my executor immediately after my decease. ITEM; as to all the rest residue and remainder of my estates whatsoever and wheresoever whether real or personal not herein before given or disposed of I give devise and bequeath unto the said John Westbrooke of Shattersbrooke yeoman, his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever he paying thereout all my just debts funeral and incident charges and lastly I do hereby make nominate constitute and appoint the said John Westbrooke sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former and other wills by me heretofore made and do hereby publish pronounce and declare this present writing only to be my last will and testament.  In witness whereof I the said John Winch have to each sheet of this my last will and testament being in all two sheets in number set my hand and to this last sheet have put my hand and seal this seventeenth day of April in the twenty-fourth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth, and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty one – John Winch – signed sealed published and declared by the within named John Winch the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses hereunto in the presence and at the request of the said testator and in the presence of each other.  Nehem: Brandreth, J.
