1750 John Winch of Bray

In the name of God Amen.  I JOHN WINCH of Bray in the Parish of Bray and County of Berks gentleman being of sound and disposing mind and memory (praised be Almighty God for the same) do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to the ground to be decently interred at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named and as to such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me and which I am legally enabled to dispose of by will I give devise and dispose thereof in manner following.  Imprimis I do hereby ratify and confirm the settlement I made upon my dear and loving wife previous to my intermarriage with her ITEM I give and devise all that my freehold tenement or farm commonly called or known by the name of Bishops situate and being at Okely Green in the said Parish of Bray and now in the occupation of John Girdler and all my lands and hereditaments thereunto belonging or therewith usually held occupied or enjoyed reputed or taken as part parcel or member thereof with their and every of their appurtenances and all my estate interest and equity of redemption therein unto my loving daughter Elizabeth Winch and to her heirs and assigns for ever ITEM I give and devise all my copyhold lands tenements and hereditaments with their and every of their appurtenances situate and being in Lawrence Waltham in the said county of Berks and now in the occupation of John Trundall unto my said saughter Elizabeth Winch and to her heirs and assigns for ever I having already made a competent and suitable provision for my son Richard Winch by a settlement upon his intermarriage with Mary his late wife who is since deceased without leaving any issue of her body ITEM I constitute ordain and appoint my said dear and loving wife Mary Winch sole executrix of this my will hereby revoking and making void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this to be my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of August in the fourteenth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith etc and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty – John Winch –  Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names as witnesses thereto in the presence of the said testator the words “at Okely Green” being first interlined – Mary Brownsword John Goreing Rogr Brownsword

 

Probate 18/5/1750This will was proved at London before the Right Worshipful John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted on the eighteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty by the oath of Mary Winch widow the relict of the deceased and sole executrix to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased being first sworn by commission duly to administer.
