1700 Simon Winch of Fifield Bray

In the name of God Amen.  I SIMON WINCH of Fifield in the Parish of Bray in the County of Berks gent being in perfect and sound mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following Imprimis whereas I the said Simon Winch by indenture tripartite bearing date the [blank in National Archives Manuscript] have amongst other lands settled certain lands and tenements with their appurtenances lying and being in the hamlet of Didworth in the Parish of New Windsor in the County of Berks now or late in the tenure or occupation of Richard Winch yeoman of whom I lately purchased the same to the use of me the said Simon Winch for and during the tenure of my natural life and from and after my decease then to the use and behoof of John Winch my youngest son and the heirs of his body lawfully to be begotten and for want of such issue to the use of Richard Winch my eldest son and his heirs for ever subject to the payment of such sum and sums of money as I shall be any deeds or by my last will in writing limit direct and appoint and such other provisos and conditions as are therein contained  As in and by the said recited indenture relation being thereunto had more at large appeareth Now I the said Simon Winch according to the power reserved in and by the said recited indenture do hereby order direct and appoint my said son John Winch and the heirs of his body and such other person or persons who shall have and enjoy the said lands and premises in the said recited indenture mentioned to have been purchased of the said Richard Winch by virtue of any limitation therein contained to pay or cause to be paid unto my youngest daughter Elinor Winch the full sum of eight hundred pounds of lawful money of England within one month next after my decease out of the said lands and tenements in Didworth aforesaid with which payment I do hereby charge the same And which said sum of eight hundred pounds I give unto my said daughter Elinor Winch for her portion but in default of payment thereof according to the direction aforesaid I the said Simon Winch do hereby direct and appoint my said daughter Elinor Winch to enter into and upon all the said lands and tenements with their appurtenances in Didworth aforesaid in and by the said recited indenture mentioned and the same to have hold and enjoy and the rents issues and profits thereof to receive and to take to her own proper use and behoof committing no waste until she shall be fully satisfied and paid the said sum of eight hundred pounds with interest and costs from the time the sum shall become due and payable as aforesaid  ITEM I give unto my daughter Elizabeth the wife of William Davis the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid to her within twelve months next after my decease out of the profits of a lease granted to me by the Dean and Canons of Windsor of certain lands in Fifield East Oakley and Winkfield by my son Richard Winch and in case he shall neglect or refuse to pay the same as aforesaid then I do hereby give unto my said daughter Elizabeth full power to enter into and upon all the said lands and premises with the appurtenances and the same to sell and dispose of for and towards the payment of the said sum of one hundred pounds as aforesaid and in case my son Richard Winch shall and do pay the sum of one hundred pounds in manner as is before appointed for the payment of the same to my daughter Elizabeth then I do hereby give unto my said son Richard Winch the said lease from the said Dean and Canons and two other leases granted to me by the Mayor Aldermen and Burgesses of Reading the better to enable him to pay the same Also I give unto my said son Richard Winch andElizabeth his wife twenty shillings apiece to buy each of them a ring. To my son in law Edward Cotterell and Mary his wife five pounds to buy them mourning. To my son in law Thomas King and Anne his wife the like sum to buy them mourning. To my son in law William Davis and Elizabeth his wife the sum of five pounds to buy them mourning and to my daughter Elinor five pounds to buy her mourning.  Also I give to all my grandchildren twenty shillings apiece. And to the poor of the Parish of Bray five pounds to be disposed at the discretion of my executors Also I desire all my silver plate and linen to be distributed amongst my children as my wife shall think meet And I do hereby make constitute and ordain my dear wife Anne Winch and my son John Winch sole executors of this my last will and testament In witness whereof I the said Symon Winch have put my hand and seal this fourth day of November one thousand six hundred and ninety nineSy Winch – Signed sealed published and declared to be the last will and testament of the abovenamed Simon Winch in the presence of – Tho Shefford Robt Mewes Eliz Shefford
