In the name of God Amen; I John PEADE, Citizen and Draper of London, being at present weak in body but of perfect and disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament.  I resign my soul to Almighty God hoping for salvation by Christ Jesus our Saviour, and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried by and at the discretion of my executrix hereafter named.  For my temporal estate I devise the same as follows:  FIRST, I give and bequeath to my kind and loving wife Elizabeth PEADE and to her heirs and assigns for ever my messuage or tenement with the lands and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in Newington Green in the County of Middlesex and now in the tenure or occupation of Nathaniel Holton or his assigns and held of the Manor of Brownswood alias Brondeswood.  ITEM; I give and bequeath to my said wife Elizabeth Peade and to her executors and assigns my messuage or tenement in Kings Street in the Parish of St Lawrence Jury in the City of London and now in the tenure or occupation of Samuel Draper, Scrivener or his assigns together with the lease of the same to me made and granted by the Wardens and Cominalty of the Mistery of Mercer’s of the City of London bearing date the seventh day of August AD 1672; and all my term estate and interest therein, and I do order and appoint my uncle Nicholas LANE and brother Thomas PEADE according to trust reposed in them to assign over the same to my said wife and her executors and assigns accordingly.  ITEM I give and bequeath to my said wife Elizabeth Peade and her executors and assigns my eighth part in the ship Griffins Captain Bodey commander of her, and all freight adventures and profits of and in the same ship or anyway due for the same.  ITEM; I give and bequeath to my said brother Thomas Peade, brothers Luke and Isaac Peade to each of them ten pounds for mourning.  To my sister Margaret BRANDON ten pounds for mourning.  To my brother-in-Law James HOLLAND ten pounds for mourning. To my brother-in-law Richard TILLESLEY and his wife five pounds apiece. To my cousin James Brighouse ten pounds and all my wearing clothes (except cloaks). To William Hatton ten pounds. To my servant Richard Bradshaw twenty pounds. AND all the rest residue and remainder of all and singular my goods, chattels, debts, ready money and estate whatsoever I do give and bequeath to my said wife Elizabeth Peade and I do make my said wife Elizabeth Peade full and sole executrix of this my will and I do hereby revoke and make void all former wills by me made and so declare this to be my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fifth day of December AD 1675, and in the seven and twentieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord King Charles the Second of England etc. – John Peade – Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator to be his last will and testament after the interlining of the word “eighth” in the presence of us – Nicholas Lane, Robert WYNCH, Richard Banner
