In the name of God Amen, I JOHN HAWTHORNE of the parish of Warfield i the County of Berks, yeoman, being sick and weak yet having my perfect memory thanks be unto my gracious God therefore, looking upon this my weakness as a sickness unto death do make this my last will and testament in manner as follows:  Inprimis I do willingly and cheerfully resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God the father of the spirits of all flesh humbly beseeching him who of his goodness created and redeemed it in his mercies in Jesus Christ to receive it unto eternal rest.  ITEM; I do will and bequeath unto my loving wife KATHERINE the use of the beds bedding and bedsteads with all that belongs unto it during her natural life and after her decease to my daughter KATHERINE.   ITEM; I do will and bequeath unto my son JOHN ten shillings and a pair of sheets.  ITEM; I do will and bequeath unto my son RICHARD ten pounds to be paid within a year after my decease; also I do bequeath unto him the said Richard a ewe and a lamb and a pair of sheets.  ITEMS; I do bequeath unto my grandchild NATHANIELL HAWTHORNE five shillings to e paid within half a year after my decease.  ITEM; I do bequeath unto my daughter ELIZABETH the wife of JOHN LEE of Cobham in the County of Surrey ten shillings.  And the rest of my goods and chattels moveables household stuff etc., I do will and bequeath unto my loving wife Katherine and unto my son Nathaniell and Katherine my daughter whom I do make joint executors of this my last will and testament to be equally divided amongst them, my debts and burial charges being defrayed, and I do request my loving friends and neighbours Richard Lodge and Roger Milton to see that this my will and testament be truly performed according to the true intent thereof whom I do appoint to be overseers of this my last will and testament.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of April AD 1654 – (the mark of)  John Hawthorne – witnesses Will.
