In the name of God Amen; the six and twentieth day of September in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fifty and one, I JOHN DANN of Warbleton in the County of Sussex yeoman being ill in body but of good and perfect memory praised be God do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following: first I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping to be saved by the alone merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer; and my body to be buried in a decent and Christianlike manner at the discretion of my executor hereafter mentioned.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Warbleton aforesaid the sum of ten shillings of lawful money of England to be paid by my executor to the overseers of the said parish within one month after my decease to be disposed of by them to the poorest of the poor there.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto the poor of Dallington the sum of ten shillings of like lawful money to be paid by my executor to the overseers of the poor of the said parish of Dallington within one month after my decease to be disposed of by them to the poorest of the por there.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife MARY DANN the use and benefit of all my household stuff during her natural life and likewise I give and bequeath unto her all and all manner of provision for the keeping of her house which I shall leave her in my now dwelling house at my decease; and in case there be not at my decease four bushels of wheat and four bushels of malt in my dwelling house for and towards my wife’s provision then my mind and will is that my executor shall lay into her house immediately four bushels of each of the grains aforesaid.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my kinsman OBEDIENT DANN the sum of five pounds of lawful money of England to be paid by my executor within six months after my decease.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my kinsman THOMAS HOADLEY The son of JOHN HODLEY Junr  the sum of ten pounds of lawful money to be paid unto the said Thomas Hoadley at his age of one and twenty years if he be then living.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my kinsman JOHN DANN the second son of JASPER DANN my brother the sum of twenty pounds of lawful money to be paid him by my executor within one whole year next after my decease.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my kinsman THOMAS DANN his brother the sum of forty pounds of like lawful money to be paid unto him by my executor within one whole year next after my decease.  ITEM; I give and bequeath unto my wife’s kinswoman JOANE BOLLARD the sum of five pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her by my executor within one whole year after my decease; as concerning all my freehold lands that I now have lying and being in the Parish of East Hoathlie in the said County with the buildings thereupon erected I give and bequeath unto Mary my said wife during her natural life and if she be not with child at my departure then after her decease I give and bequeath the said lands with the appurtenances unto my said kinsman John Dann and his heirs forever.  All the residue of my moveable goods and household stuff unbequeathed my debts legacies and funeral expenses discharged I give and bequeath unto my kinsman WILLIAM DANN whom I do make and ordain to be my sole executor of this my last will and testament; and for all other former wills and testaments I do hereby disannul and make utterly void and do declare this to be my last will and testament.  In witness that this is my very act and will I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written in the presence of those whose names are hereunder written – John Dann (his mark) – read sealed and acknowledged to be my last will and testament in the presence of William Kenward Joane Fill (her mark) John Hartfort
